Retired President, New York Life Insurance Company
Fred Sievert was elected president of New York Life Insurance Company in 2002 and, from January 2004 until June of 2007, he shared responsibility for overall company management in the Office of the Chairman with Chairman, Sy Sternberg. Mr. Sievert was a member of the company’s Execuctive Management Committee, which was responsible for establishing management policies in all areas of the company’s business affairs. In addition, he was president and a member of the board of New York Life Insurance and Annuity Corporation and served as chairman of the board of NYLIFE Insurance Company of Arizona. He is a past-chairman of the LICONY board of directors and of the American College. He also served as a director of LIMRA International. He is the immediate past chairman of the Actuarial Foundation and is the chair of the Finance Committee of the International Center of Photography.
Since his retirement from New York Life on June 30, 2007, Mr. Sievert has been attending Yale Divinity School as a Master’s degree student and also has been teaching business school courses at Fairfield University. He continues to serve as a Trustee on eight non-profit boards and is a Director of RGA (The Reinsurance Group of America), a publicly traded global company headquartered in St. Louis, MO.
In addition to remaining active throughout his career in industry activities, Mr. Sievert has also regularly participated in civic and volunteer activities in his local community and church. He has served as a Deacon and is currently a trustee of the New Canaan Congregational Church.
Mr. Sievert received a B.A. degree from Amherst College and an M.A. degree from Wayne State University. He and his wife, Susan have five grown children and two granddaughters and reside in Stamford, Connecticut.
