Roger Bolton

Public Relations Counselor. APCO Worldwide

Roger Bolton is an independent public relations counselor and a member of APCO Worldwide’s International Advisory Council. He works closely with APCO Worldwide and Gagen MacDonald. He specializes in strategic issues, including reputation, brand and culture change.

Bolton is a past president of the Arthur W. Page Society, a membership organization for chief communications officers of major corporations, and currently co-chairs the Page Society’s Authentic Enterprise Task Force, which is working to help global companies understand how to protect their brands and reputations in a rapidly changing global operating environment.

Previously, he served as senior vice president of communications at Aetna, a $35 billion provider of health care benefits, with responsibility for media relations, public affairs, internal and executive communications, advertising, brand management and corporate public involvement. He also chaired Aetna’s Council for Organizational Effectiveness - a group of senior executives responsible for helping the company achieve high performance through culture change - and served on the board of the Aetna Foundation.

Immediately before joining Aetna, Mr. Bolton served as IBM’s director of corporate media relations and director of communications for the IBM server and software groups.

Prior to his business career, Mr. Bolton served as a public official in Washington, D.C., including assistant secretary of the Treasury for public affairs under President George H.W. Bush, assistant U.S. trade representative for public affairs in the Executive Office of the President under President Reagan, and special assistant to President Reagan in the White House, with responsibility for president’s relations with business and labor.

He serves on the boards of the Page Society, Josephson Institute for Ethics, and Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication at Penn State University. He serves on advisory boards of the Center for Faith and Culture at Yale Divinity School and Baruch College MA in Corporate Communication Program. He is a deacon of the Congregational Church of New Canaan, Connecticut.
