Our 2014 God & Human Flourishing consultation took place on December 12th and 13th, and this year, our theme was Christ and Human Flourishing. We asked what ramifications Christ’s relation to humanity more broadly has for human flourishing in particular. To what degree is Jesus Christ the model or paradigm of human flourishing? What is the relation between limitation and participation, or what are the concrete, lived effects of human participation in Christ? In discussing these kinds of questions, we invited four scholars, Marianne Meye Thompson, Joseph Wawrykow, Stephen J. Pope, and Christopher Beeley, and they articulated a methodology for thinking about human flourishing in its manifold dimensions through the lens of the life and person of Christ, one that will lay the groundwork for our future program of God & Human Flourishing consultations.
