Andra Gillespie is Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the James Weldon Johnson Institute for the Study of Race and Difference at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She teaches courses on American politics, race and politics, and qualitative methodology. She has written or edited three books: Whose Black Politics: Cases in Post-Racial Black Leadership; The New Black Politician: Cory Booker, Newark and Post-Racial America; and Race and Obama Administration: Symbols, Substance and Hope.

Andra earned her B.A. from the University of Virginia and her Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University.
