Smoot Carter ('13, M.A.R.) is a native of Winchester, Virginia. He attended Woodberry Forest School, and received his Bachelor’s Degrees from Louisiana State University, where he was briefly a decathlete on the LSU track team. He continued his studies at Yale Divinity School, receiving a Master of Arts in Religion in 2013.

Smoot is currently the Head of Private Markets at Elevation Securities. He joined Elevation in 2018, when he co-founded the Private Markets team. Under his leadership, EPM has assisted employees and investors at late-stage private companies to achieve liquidity, processing over $2.75 billion in notional volume in companies including Epic Games, SpaceX, Snowflake, Reddit and Stripe. Before joining, Smoot was an Investment Associate at Emerson Equity and Oceanic Partners. Smoot resides in Dallas, TX with his wife Meagan and their sons Smoot IV and Cal. Smoot and Meagan serve on the Advisory Board of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture; In 2022, they endowed the Smoot Center for Academic Development at Woodberry Forest School.
