Bill Cross is the author of American Periscope: Winslow Homer, a biography to be published in the spring of 2022 by Farrar, Straus & Giroux. He is an independent scholar and a consultant to art and history museums, and served as Curator of Homer at the Beach, A Marine Painter’s Journey, 1869-1880, a nationally-renowned 2019 exhibition of the earliest marine works of American painter Winslow Homer (1836-1910) at the Cape Ann Museum. He is also Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture. Bill has many years of leadership experience managing investment portfolios and investment teams, and serving museums and other non-profits ,particularly related to the visual arts and to the Christian faith. He has authored more than 200 articles and lectures, and has a special passion for unveiling beauty and narrative meaning embedded—and often hidden—in objects and in the lives of ordinary men and women. Bill is a graduate of Yale College, magna cum laude, and received an MBA at Harvard Business School. He and his wife Ellen are the proud parents of two grown sons and live on Cape Ann, north of Boston.
